A “Konsum” grocery store; the “Konsum” was an Austrian cooperative (society), which had some affilation to the Social Democrats.

The American soldiers in Salzburg brought with them chewing gum and coca cola, blue jeans and nylons. Particularly younger people in Salzburg were immensly attracted to these consumer goods. American music, moving pictures from Hollywood, and the casual lifestyle of the Americans contributed to a considerable extent not only to post-war prosperity but also to the transformation of the pre-War society into the modern consumer society.
